Buy These in February

Buy These in February

We all want to get the best ‘crazy good’ deals on the products we purchase, right?  Well, knowing when to shop for certain items is the key.

Based on data gathered by Consumer Reports the best buys for the month of February are:

  • Houses & condos
  • Humidifiers
  • Indoor furniture
  • Treadmills & ellipticals

In the market for any of these???  If so February is your time to buy…happy shopping!

Best Buys for January

Best Buys for January

According to Consumer Report magazine the following items are best purchased in January for the best pricing:

  • Bedding
  • Carpeting
  • CDs & DVDs
  • Computers
  • Cookware
  • Houses & condos
  • Linens
  • Swimwear
  • Toys
  • Treadmills and ellipticals
  • TVs
  • Winter clothing

The only problem I see with this is MOST people will be too busy trying to figure out how to pay for all of those Christmas gifts they purchased that they couldn’t really afford to be thinking about buying something for themselves or their homes…

I will take this time to say how thankful I am that our family decided years ago that a commercial Christmas was not for us.  We chose to focus on helping someone less fortunate than ourselves and spending quality time together as a family!  I am truly blessed!

Layaway Options for the Holiday Season

Layaway Options for the Holiday Season

Since most of you who read my posts are in my age bracket, I know you remember layaway plans and how you or your parents took advantage of them for holiday purchases or for big-ticket items.  Almost everyone I knew used them back in the day, then just as quickly as they came…they just…disappeared!  Well, my friends, they are making a comeback AND just in time for Christmas!

Here is a quick refresher course (or first time course for the younger whippersnappers):

  • Shop a store offering a layaway plan (links below).
  • Load up your buggy (aka ‘shopping cart’ for those of you who are not from the South). 😉
  • Instead of heading to check out, you normally go to the Customer Service department or specified Layaway area of the store.
  • Your items are totaled, as normal, but instead of paying the full amount you pay a down payment which is determined by the store’s layaway policy.
  • The merchant stores your merchandise and you make payments, once again, based on their specific layaway policy, to be paid in full by a designated date.
  • Once paid in full you pick up your merchandise, wrap and have a Merry Christmas!

This helps in several ways:

  • You have a better selection if you shop NOW as opposed to later.
  • You can take advantage of sales being offered even if you are short on cash.
  • You do not have to worry about little (or big) critters finding gifts you have hidden.
  • You can pay a little at a time instead of one lump sum.

It is important to read and be certain you understand the store’s layaway policy.

Here are the stores offering layaway plans that I know of – there may be more.  Just click on the link and it will take you to their site where you can read all about their policy regarding layaway.

I hope you find this helpful in your quest to find the perfect gifts for your family and that it makes it a little easier on your pocketbook.  Happy Shopping to all of my ‘crazy good’ friends!!!!
