Fight Colds With Food

We all know being proactive is advantageous in most situations and preventing or fighting a cold is no different.  Here are some crazy good foods that will aid you in this battle as noted from Health:

  • Oily fish – salmon, tuna & mackerel, for example, are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids which fight inflammation throughout the body

    Grilled Salmon

  • Citrus fruits – Vitamin C is believed to reduce the duration of a cold
  • Fennel tea – a natural expectorant will clear chest and soothe coughs
  • Yogurt/kefir – contains good bugs – probiotics
  • Hot Tea (black/green/white) – possible flu-fighter with catechin found in antioxidants
  • Red bell peppers – Vitamin C
  • Milk – Vitamin D
  • Mushrooms – immune-boosting antioxidants, potassium, B vitamins and fiber

  • Blueberries – immunity boosters loaded with antioxidants
  • Dark chocolate – polyphenols & zinc
  • Brazil Nuts – protein, healthy fats, selenium which promotes proper immune function
  • Carrots/sweet potatoes – Vitamin A (beta-carotene) helps maintain strong immune system
  • Sunflower seeds (dry-roasted) – Vitamin E protects cell walls from damage
  • Oats – beta-glucan which is an immunity booster

These would be my additions:

  • Ingest coconut oil and coconut water as they are loaded with too many amazing qualities to list that would aid in preventing/fighting a cold
  • I would also recommend steering clear of processed foods.  They just aren’t good for you ANY TIME!
  • Drink lots and lots of water!
  • Use a saline spray to keep your nasal passages clear.
  • Eat local honey EVERY day – put it on toast or in your beverage~
  • REST!

As always, here is to your best health…naturally~
